Vice President Harris Visits w/Public Servant Mother & Daughter Plus Loan Students Whose $350K SL Debt Was Forgiven Via The SAVE Program

NATION: On Tuesday, US Vice President Kamala Harris visited with students who have received student loan forgiveness through the Biden Harris administration SAVE program. The SAVING on A Valuable Education (SAVE) Program was established through the Biden-Harris administration, 2021 and is available to US college and university students who are eligible for receiving a cancellation of portions or all of their higher- education loans. By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter "President Biden and I have forgiven student loan debt for 4.2 million people , including Kelli..." and daughter. --Vice President Kamala Harris In the beginning, the plans developed by the Biden-Harris administration to reduce and eliminate student loan debt was met with quite a bit of controversy by the Republican -side Congress. Today, the story appears quite different. While a choke had been placed against the administration's efforts, the Biden-Harris administration managed to overcome the efforts of prevention to, thereafter, provide more than 127 billion dollars in student loan debt relief to 3.6 million US students. After careful review of a number of matters at issue that plagued the student loan system--some including the miscalculation of payments and the use by the system of forbearance for loans that may have required further review, the Biden-Harris administration took steps to straighten out the program and remove the historical problems. In addition to the problems within the system, the Biden-Harris administration perceived that students who became loan borrowers as a facility to further their education were, thereafter, burdened with exorbitant loan repayments while their employment and/or unemployment would not provide incomes sufficient for reaching the repayment demands. One pair of students, a mother and daughter, spoke with Vice President Harris and described their situation prior to and after having their loans cancelled. The student stated that she and her daughter gained access to the 'daughter/parent Plus Loans adding that at the time she completed her education her student loan debt had reached $350,000 dollars. As the mother in the pair, the former student, working as a public servant, paid $800.0 dollars per month and struggled to make ends meet. As a result of the development of the SAVE Program, the mother began a new job in February and received a notice thanking her for her work as a public servant while, also, stating that her student loans of $350,000 dollars had been forgiven. The daughter, also, received a higher education and degree from Spellman University to become a Worldwide Refugee Officer--indicating that her portion of the debt was $100,000 dollars cancelled via the SAVE program. Today, student loans forgiveness for members of public service have been expanded, now. providing forgiveness to 715,000 US public servants. The SAVE Program has provided forgiveness to 500,000 students with disabilities and 1.3 million students "...borrowers who were cheated by their schools, saw their institutions precipitously close or are covered by related court cases." The Biden-Harris administration has included income contingency borrowers in the SAVE program plan allowing millions of student's loan repayment to fall to zero as others will save 1000s each year. The SAVE program is expected to go into full effect by July, 2024.
