US Vetoes Palestine Bid For Statehood w/UN

Updated: Apr 18

US & GLOBAL: Today, the White House has taken steps to block Palestine's being inducted into the UN. The US' decision to veto Palestine's bid for statehood was made following a vote launched by the UN panel of 14 partner states. Each of 12 states voted to favor Palestine's induction while the UK and Switzerland declined Palestine's petition for being fully instated. By Anne M Erbynstein "The most expeditious path towards statehood for the Palestinian people is through direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority with the support of the United States and other partners who share this goal." --Vedant Patel On Thursday, the UN opposed the petition put forth by Palestine leaders for becoming a UN state. Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas issued a response to the US veto faulting the United Sates for the decline in approval despite the cotes that failed to provide adequately for Palestine approval. Palestinian leaders were criticized by UN state members who indicated that, as opposed to Palestine President Abbas' criticism during which he commented against the US stating that the veto was "...unfair, immoral and unjustified." One UN authority commented in regard to the audacity of Palestine's attempt at requesting approval following the last 6 months of heinous violence against Israel. The UN official added that the violence committed against Israel was worse in comparison to the Holocaust making reference to the sexual and blatantly atrocious crimes against women and children. Today, other UN officials referred to the October 7 attack on Israel that in the last months of violence, has resulted in the deaths of nearly 40,000 Israeli residents. In the most recent years and attempts by Palestine to attain statehood, the matter of denial surrounded matters associated with Palestine terrorism. Palestine's petition for statehood in 2011 resulted in a resolution that would demand that Palestinian government refrain from acts of terrorism, avoid any association with terrorist groups and funding by known terrorist affiliates. Palestine's characteristics of terrorism seem to persist crating a condition that cannot be supported by the UN. Most recently , in regard to the UN decision, US Department of State deputy official, Vedant Patel indicated that Palestine would be faced with a new policy that would be inclusive of a diplomatic system. Patel stated that negotiations would be the nest path to being accepted by UN standard while the primary concern is obtaining full approval by way of engaging in shared goals with UN partners.
