NATION: In a case that brought about scores of complaints and claims of sexual assault filed against former Olympic physician, Larry Nasser, the US Department of Justice investigators found that, during their investigation of Nasser, the FBI engaged in misconduct. Today DOJ continue negotiations with the FBI involving a settlement of $139 million dollars to be awarded four US Olympiads. By Anne M Erbynstein "While these settlements won't undo the harm Nasser inflicted, the hope is they will give the victims of his crimes some of the critical support they need to continue healing."--US DOJ Acting Associate Attorney General, Ben Mizer In the last () years, following the case that sent Olympic gymnastic physician, Larry Nasser to prison, the victims of his heinous acts of sexual abuse have sought to settle matters between them, Nasser and the Olympic Commission. as a consequence of the FBI investigation that ensued, the young women lodged a complaint that exposed the FBI's mishandling of the claims and, ultimate, misconduct on the part of its agents. According to DOJ, the FBI failed to properly investigation the females claims of sexual misconduct such that each of them stated they were made victims by Nasser during the times that he apparently conducted physicals of each of the young girls who traioned with the Olympics gymnastics teams. Today, among those citing Nasser have been Simone Biles, Mikayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols and Aly Raisman. According to the US DOJ report, the allegations filed by the females were not taken seriously by the FBI. According to the DOJ report that followed the investigation, the FBI was made aware of the alleged sexual abuses that were inflicted by doctor Nasser and, while fully knowledgeable to the claims filed, the FBI ignored the accusations for a prolonged period of more than one year as abuses persisted. Following the onset of claims of sexual abuse made by the young females against doctor Nasser were claims that were inclusive of complaints against the department. Subsequent to the former complaint filed in 2022, DOJ launched its own investigation against the FBI through which evidence of misconduct surfaced in regard to that which had been committed on the part FBI investigator(s). In regard to the case involving the $139m settlement, a total of 40 young women filed an initial claim of $1billion dollars in personal damages. The sum has been reduced to little more than 10% of the initial claim.
