NC Shooting Results In Deaths of 3 US Marshals -5 CMPD Officers Injured

STATE & NATIONAL: Police killed today in Charlotte, NC during a routine warrant serving effort. Three Mecklenburg police officers were killed and 5 others were injured when gun fire erupted at the east Charlotte location. Three of the slain and injured officers served onthe US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, others were officers of the Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department By Anne M. Erbynstein A shooting that occurred in the near Denson Place subdivision in the east Charlotte , North Carolina resulted in the deaths of 3 US Marshals who were serving an arrest warrant. The CMPD police report indicates that it was at 2pm Monday, when officers arriving at the residence in the 5000 block of Galway were engaged in gun battle. The warrant, served on a convicted felon, involved the convict's violation of parole involving the possession of a firearm. When gun fire erupted, US Marshals returned gunfire striking and killing the convicted suspect. Two people who remained inside the home engaged in gunfire as the officers approached the person being served. According to the report, the two inside the home, also, opened gunfire upon the officers as they entered the home. Officers were able to make arrests of the two suspects however, not before their gun shots struck and killed 3 US Marshals. Police commented following the incident indicating that several officers who arrived at the scene to assist with the arrests were, also, struck by gunfire. While the matter remained a severe alert, the city of Mecklenburg remained on lockdown. Today, police have since stated that the matter the matter has been brought under control while the shooting has been registered by CMPD as an incident isolated to the Galway street residential area.
