POLITICS: Announced last week, US President Joe Biden stated plans for delivering the commencement speech to graduating seniors at the largely black, men's college, Morehouse. Today, some antagonistic grumbling is said to have emanated from members of the student body and others criticizing Biden's policy involving. Some affirm Israel’s right to self-defense, especially in the face of attacks. Others argue that the right to self-defense does not apply when the state is effectively controlling the territory, as is the case with Israel and Gaza. Issues have, also, been raised concerning the proportionality of Israel’s response.

Today, at Morehouse and among student at colleges and universities across the nation, there are complex issues surrounding the war between Israel and Hamas and a wide range of perspectives, such that US students have continued to conduct protest as a testament to their demonstrated concern. While public opinion is not one sided, it is quite clearly racially motivated with Palestinian students making a clear effort at gaining the full support and sympathies of the US--the element of support and sympathetic expression that the Biden administration has expressed for both sides in the ongoing conflict. There is no consensus that universally applies to all situations or viewpoints.
