US Vice President Harris Stands w/Her Mother Shayamala G Harris During AA NHPI Ceremony

NATION: Standing for women's rights and freedoms, US Vice President Kamala Harris commented during the AANHPI Heritage conference held on the White House lawn. Harris commenting in reference to her stand with women, stated that, on that day, she and other women of Pacific Island decent stood should to shoulder with her mother, Shayamala Gopalan Harris. "It is because of her strength and determination that, within one generation, I stand before you as Vice President ofthe United States."--Vice President Kamala Harris This month, Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated alongside members of the AA and NHPI. Harris celebrated the heritage that is , also, in part, Vice President Harris's along with young leaders and women who have sought after equality in the United States. "This day and every day, we honor and celebrate the heroes upon whose broad shoulders we all stand." --US Vice President, Kamala Harris According to Harris, the road to equality in labor and business in American has been long fought, however, as each have stood strong throughout the plight, it was during the ceremony held in honor of those who have weathered the storms that the Vice President encouraged the voluminous audience of spectators and honorees to keep their chin up, hold their shoulders back and "...know that we are applauding you every step ofthe way." Harris spoke in regard to President Biden stating that Biden has made taking a stand for the equality of every American his hallmark and mantra. Vice President Harris recalled the Delano Grape Strike which was led by Pacific Islanders who demanded working for equal pay as these events heralded as the substance of that which added to shaping US history. In the 1800's, Pacific Islanders were among those who laid the first tracks of the Pacific Railroad. "Pacific Islanders worked on farms and strengthened the agricultural base of the Pacific coast." 442nd combat Team and Philippinos who helped to fight in World War II and fought for equal pay. Harris' mother was a cancer researcher whose character strength and determination that kamala Harris became the Vice President ofthe United States. Arriving in the US when she was 19, Shayamala G Harris left India to pursue freedom and her hope for success inthe United States. "We've seen the most violent assault on our fundamental freedoms and rights--the freedom to vote, the freedom to live safe from gun violence and the freedom from hate and bigotry, the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride, the freedom to learn and acknowledge our full and true history and the freedom of women to make their own decisions about their own bodies and not have their government tell them what to do."--Vice President Kamala Harris Vice President Harris stated that, upon her arrival in the United States, Shayamala Goyapal had two goals .; to pursue a cure for breast cancer and to , eventually raise her two girls to acknowledge their equality and become leaders. Never asking anyone's permission to pursue her dreams, but sought after her goals as a American. The same characteristics were instilled in her daughters. Harris stated that each of Shayamala children were raised to know the value of hard work, the importance of community and the duty to share in concern for the next person. Something of a perverse nature has transpired over the last years in America, Harris commented, adding that her impression of the perverseness surrounds the efforts by others to assume a role which dictates to them that their measure of strength is in who they beat down. "What we know is that the courage is in who you lift up."

Harris commented in regard to those who, from their huge pulpits, comment in fear, in reference to xenophobia and hatred including Anti-Asian hate. Vice President Harris stated her belief that was once stated in a phrase spoken by Secretary Norm Minetta who said, "'You have two arms; one to climb the ladder of success and one to reach down and pick someone up and pull them up behind you.'" US Vice President Harris spoke into the hearts and minds of the Pacific Islanders attending the AA NHPI gathering stating her espoused mantra "...to lift as we climb."
