US DOJ Attorney General Garland Responds To Biden's Executive Privilege Involving Recordings

NATION: Today, in Washington, the matter of () recordings has emerged as a matter of concern for the White House. President Joe Biden has stepped forward to assume Executive Privilege over recordings as a measure taken to preserve the privacy and security of federal grounds, properties and employees. By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter Responding to the decision made by President Joe Bide, the US Department of Justice has stated its position in regard to the matter of the impact of recordings as it affects privacy and security. Today. US Attorney General Merrick Garland commented stating the fundamental position that is had by the Justice department in regard to democracy. Garland stated that the justice department is relied on to conduct investigations with facts and without political influence. Garland commented in regard to justice department and its committees stating that the department goes to incredible lengths to ensure that committees receive responses to credible requests, Garland indicating that "...this is not one to the contrary." Contrary to expectation, Garland states that the recent effort is one that would harm the ability of DOJ to successfully "pursue sensitive investigations inthe future." Garland states that there have been recent unprecedented attacks on DOJ. Garland states that this method of using contempt to access justice department files is the most recent effort, an albeit attack made against the department, while the threat to defund the department hangs in the balance. The Attorney General indicated that the methods of investigation by DOJ are under attack by Congress adding that threats are aimed at prosecutors and investigators and that these attacks against the department are wrong. Garland stated that the can only move forward, at this point, with protecting the building and its people. The Attorney General stated that the department will be requested to "do the right thing..." adding that justice department agents must proceed with their work following the principles of federal prosecution. While Garland did not mentioned the justice department's obligation to following the tenets of the US Constitution and its lawful statutes which must, also, subject the department to federal law adherence, Garland states that the federal principles of prosecution obligate the department to following facts and the law. Garland states that outside inappropriate influences are screened by the department and takes steps to protect the department's ability to preserve high profile and sensitive investigations and, Garland commented, "we will continue to do that."
