Preakness Triple Crown Won By 'Seize The Grey' Traner 88 Year Old DW Lucas, Raced By Jaime Torres Defeated 3 Time Champ Mystik Dan

STATE & NATIONAL: On Saturday, a turnover in the winning streak had by the horse that held the triple Crown, Mystik Dan had remained the 3 year consecutive victor in the Preakness. This weekend, Mystik Dan will relinquish his crown to the new victor, Seize The Grey. By Anne M. Erbynstein At Pimlico Race Course on Saturday, it was albeit a scene that would reflect the age old axiom 'win-by-a-nose as the all time champion, Mystik Dan was succeeded by the new winner of the Preakness. The crowned victor, Seize The Grey defeated Dan, the former champ who followed behind Grey in second place.

The Preakness stakes, is the 149th Triple Crown race held at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore Maryland. Not surprisingly, given the training success of Darrel Wayne Lucas, Seize The Grey might be expected to emerge victorious over Mystik Dan. As a trainer, Lucas is a 15 time winner at the Preakness and an inductee into the US Racing Hall of Fame. The winner of 20 Breeder Cup races, Lucas has received 5 Eclipse Awards during his career. Lucas-trained horses have won 25 consecutive eclipse Awards. The moment of Carpe Diem arrived for Seize the Grey at no easy measure. Horse racer, Jaime Torres apparently viewed the course from the eyes of the horse he was racing in his relentless, mad dash for the finish line. Torres would not surrender his lead as Mystik Dan rider, put forth his every effort to exceed the horse that appeared a bit younger and stronger. At the end of the day, the Torres and Seize The Grey pairing was the winning combination. As it is written, "If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses?"
