Arlington, Va. Resident Considered Dead Following House Explosion




STATE & NATIONAL: On Tuesday morning neoghbors in the Arlington, Virginia neighborhood of N. Burlington St complained to police about having heard excessive rounds of gun fire. Police arrived in the 800 block of N. Burlington Street to investigate the report finding the resident firing shots barricaded inside hios home. By Anne M. Erbynstein Following the report by neighbors of having heard between 30 and 40 rounds of gun shots being fired from a N. Burlington street neighbor's home, an investigation that insued resulted in police obtaning aq search warrant. Police tracked down the apparent perpetrator however also recorded information that while shots had been fired into the neighborhood, no one and nothing had been struck nor damaged. The police investigation uncovered information of the shooter's device having been a flare gun fired several times , apparently, in an effort to gain the attention of neighbors or law enforcement. The suspect firing the flare gun avoided answering a call placed by the police during a police -suspect standoff. Officwers attempted to reach the suspect using loudspeaker devices however, no response had been made by the resident. Police reported that several additional rounds of possible gun fire had been discharged during their attempted efforts at carrying out a search warrant. Nearly 4 hours after the incident began, the suspect's house exploded at 8:25pm. Police immediately called area fire department which arrived to assit with extinguishing the fire caused by the explosion. Subsequent to the fire, police have stated that the suspect is considered dead. The suspect, identified as James Yoo, 56 of Arlington, Va., is considered to be dead after police reported locating human remains. An investigation of the matter, including the final effects of the explosion of the house, continues, however, the report of police involved actions includes the evidence of officers deploying several rounds of "...non-flammable, less lethal chemical munitions to multiple areas within the residence where the suspect was believed to be hiding."
