Israel Rocked By Missiles During 4Day Humanitarian Ceasefire-UNL Israel Must Protect West Bank


US & GLOBAL: Fighting in Israel and the Gaza that has persisted over a period pf more than one month will, now, receive some measure of reprieve--however bee iot a small measure. Israel, once reluctant to agree to a temporary ceasefire, will agree to a four day shut down of fighting in a sytep taken to ensure the safety of those traveling from the north to southern Gaza and that ofthe drivers delivering relief goods to war refugees. UN officials stated , today, that Israel will be responsible for protecting Palestinians in the West Bank, says the High Commissioner for Human rights. The UN has received reports from the West Bank alleging cruel and unusual treatment od residents, intimidation , malicious persecution, evictions and mporal turpitude brought against West Bank residents. Comments made by the High Commissioner offer directives to Israeli forces stating that there has been an increase in the violence that leaves at risk more innocent residents in the region. In a reversal of expectations surrounding the apparent four day suspension in fighting, UN officials state that the situation represents a matter of urgency prompting the UN to direct Israel's actions toward an increase in peace measures. In the Gaza region, despite last months warnings by Israeli forces made to residents in the north, the warnings have failed to remove everyone from Gaza city, while forces on both sides have intermittantly resisted the 4 day ceasefire, reports of injury and death continue to be filed by authorities in the region. Israel has indicated that occupying and maintaining control in the West Bank is imminent.
