NATION: On Wednesday, following the open fire arm attack on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered comments on the heinous event that cost 3 innocent people their lives as injuries struck as many as half a dozen others. Vice President Harris recanted the statements made by students and others who were struck with "...fear and trauma," adding that "...our nation is being torn apart by this epidemic." By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter "Every person inthe community across america should have the freedom to live safe from gun violence...Today, it was another campus of students terrorized while being told RUN-HIDE-FIGHT..." -- Vice President Kamala Harris In regard to the shooting at UNLV, Vice President Harris commented, also, in reference to the shooting that transpired nbear the UNLV campus years ago--the Harvest Music Festival, Mandalay Hotel shooting during such time that 64-year-old Stephen Paddock sjot and killed 60 people after having fired 1000 rounds. This week's UNLV shooting has been regarded as the 2nd dealiest mass shooting in the United States compared only to the Harvest Music Festival massacre. Harris stated, "These are not simple statistics. These are our loved ones." Harris commented in regard to two shooting on Tuesday that occurred in Texas adding that a string of shootings have added to the senseless violence. In Texas, a gunman killed 6 people, injuring 3 others including two police officers in austin and San Antonio. Harris pointed to the fact that shootings appear to be recurring while ,. in the last 3 mass shootings--the most recent near Uvalde and sutherland springs--have taken place near a former shooting massacre. As an investigation of the shooting continues, Vice President Harris informed Americans that as many as 120 people are killed as a result of gun violence each day in the United States adding that gun violence is, also , the leading cause of deaths among children. According to the most recent research conducted on gun violence and the American family, the count of families in the United States reveals that 1 in 5 families have been affected by gun violence.. Harris stated that gun violence exists as an epidemic. Vice President Harris commented in regard to the steps currently being taken by the Biden-HArris administration involving increasing background check data mking checks universal, passing red flag laws renewing the nbban on assault weapons. Across the nation, Americans have reacted with pros and cons in regard tothe last years of gun violence committed as a result of crime. The gun violence that has killed more than 207 American in the last 19-23 years --the years in which gun violence by mass shootings erupted in the United States more than 1565 times--can, also, be minimized by removing guns from the hands of the vast public who, now, have a license to kill through the effects of open carry. While Americans who carry fire arms state that their arrival at a recent increase in security rests in their ability to self defend by carrying a weapon that enabling them to fight back, the crude reality is that the dangers of open carry are being ignored. When fire arms are removed from the hands of the vast public, the evidence of crime and potential crime is rendered as being quite open book, while criminals would be more readily noticeable carrying weapons in public, unlawfully. The Vice President stated that it is Congress that must take action to address the matter of epidemic gun violence. Congress, Harris stated, must not waste one moment. With every moment that the matter of gun violence is igniored, another lige is placed at risk. Vice President Harris stated that the White House is furthering actions taken to address the mnmatter of gyun violence through the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.
