Former Baltimore Attorney General Convicted on 2 Counts of Perjury



STATE & NATIONAL: In a case establsihed to uncover allegations of the former Baltimore Attorney General's having provided false information to prosecutors in regard to her financial difficulties, Marilyn Mosby has been convicted on 2 counts of perjury. By Anne M. Erbynstein On Friday, in Baltimore the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt returned a guiolty verdict in regard to a matter associated with Marilyn Mosby's statements involving the COVID-19 CARES Act relief. The allegations indicate that Mosby ignored guidelines associated with having suffering hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prosecutors in the case argued that Mosby, the two year tem former Atotorney General, experienced no harship, at all, despite the guideleines being described a vague and uncertain. Prosecutors in the case stated that Mosby operated a business during the pandemic and, possibly as a result of the economic shut down , encountered a number of losses. The actions taken by Mosby describe a situation whereby the former Attorney General withdrew money from a retirement account. Prosecutors allege that the money was used to purchase two luxury homes homes in the state of Florida. In January 2022, 43 year old Marilyn Mosby was indicted by a federal grand jury following claims she made in regard to her statement of having encountered pandemic financial hardship. According to the report and induictment, Mosby obtained $40,000 dollars and another $50,000 dollars against a deferred retirement fund provided under the CARES Act. In the trial, [prosecutors argued that Mobsby had, actually, contuiinued to receive a salary and had, also, experienced an increase in her previous salary. The report from the federal distict cour indicates that four charges had been filed against the former Baltimore Attorney General. While the four charges included providing false statements on Florida mortgage applications, Marylin Mosby was only convicted on the 2 perjury counts and faces a possible five year prison sentence.
