Capitol Police Officer Sicknick's Girlfriend, Garza, Loses Wrongful Death Case Against Fmr President


NATION: Questions arise in the aftermath of a court decision involving the death of Capitol Police Officer, Brian Sicknick. The US District Court ruled in favor of former President Donald Trump in a decision that surrounded the unwed status of Sicknick's companion, Sandra Garza. By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter According to a report received from the US District Court, Washington D.C., Judge Amit Mehta ruled against holding the former President responsible for the death of the Capitol police officer who died as a result of injuries sustained during Capitol police efforts being made to sustain and repel the mob of Trump supporters who stormed the US Capitol building, January 6, 2021 On Wednesday, Judge Mehta ruled in favor of dismissing the former President 's wrongful death charges filed in a civil law suit. Included in the charges filed against Trump are two co-defendants; Julian Khater and George Tanios. In court on Wednesday, Judge Mehta did not state that charges against Tanios and Khater had been dismissed. Lawyers for Garza commented in regard to the proceedings involving further matters to be perused in the law suit indicating that the law suit will proceed involving other claims. Garza's attorney, Mark Zaid stated his plan for pursuing further claims adding that his next step would be to depose former President Donald Trump. In addition to the possible deposition, the court indicated that other charges have been filed along with the wrongful death claim. Added claims against Trump include violations involving the former President in the conspiracy to violate civil rights and the possibility of violations being made involving the D.C. Survival Act. In regard to the courts actions taken during the Tanios and Khater co-defendants trials, both were convicted on charges involving the assault of Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick. Following the trial during which he plead guilty, 1st Codefendant: Julian Khater was convicted on charges involving two counts of assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers with a dangerous weapon and sentenced to 80 months in prison. 2nd Co-defendant, George Tanios plead guilty and was sentenced to time served and 1 year of supervised release.
