Thunderstorms & Tornadoes Expected Overnight In Eastern US Spreading Dangerous Winter Storm Conditions Across the Mid-Atlantic Thru S. Eastern To N. Eastern States


STATE & NATIONAL: This week, while a winter storm system travels through the east, southeast gulf coastal region, a 2nd storm system is expected to batter the Eastern region of the United States. The storm system that will hover over the states of Carolina, the Mid-Atlantic and moves further toward the Northeast will blow dangerously cold temperatures into the region as the strong surface cyclone continues. By Anne M. Erbynstein On Wednesday, the storm system that appears in the Eastern US will continue to shower upon the area with heavy rain, strong winds, and severe thunderstorms. The states of northern/central Virginia, southern New York and Connecticut to Rhode Island are being warned of being categorically regarded as a Moderate Risk for Excessive Rainfall that is expected to cause flooding. According to the National Weather Service, the storm that remains at bay through Tuesday night and is expected to pour over the eastern/northeastern region of the US by Wednesday morning as Wind Advisories and High Wind Warnings remain in effect Mississippi, the Southeast and East Coast. As the storm enters the region, persistent conditions are expected to spread strong winds and wind gusts to 55 mph in areas including middle/lower Mississippi to the Southeast and up the East Coast with major flooding expected in the Mid-Atlantic and New England. While thunderstorms continue to batter the region, severe activity is expected to continue with the possibility of carrying extremely dangerous. The Storm Prediction Center has predicted that the region will encounter an extreme cold front following the heavy rainfall. The area has, also, been cited as an Enhanced Risk for tornadoes. Rainfall is expected in the Mid West and Great Lakes with the possibility of snowfall. Conditions are expected to begin to clear by latter Wednesday as a low pressure system is expected to move through the Mid West and Great Lake. Snow and rainfall are likely to, also, dissipate through Thursday as conditions diminish. In the Cascades and Olympics regions of the Northwest United States, snow levels are expected to reach several inches creating significant concerns for travelers. Snow levels will fall to 1000 to 2000 feet by Wednesday as winds gust reach 60mph. While the Northern Rockies, Sierra Nevada, and Wasatch will receive 12 inches of snow, the blizzard-like conditions. In the Great Basin semi-severe conditions can be anticipated with snow squalls as snow fall leaves 1 to 2 inches on the ground and winds persist at 50 mph. Temperatures in the Central Plains are expected to reach below 0 with the high entering into the teens by Thursday /Friday. In Montana where wind chill advisories remain in effect. Temperatures of 25 to 35 below zero are expected. Warnings have been issued for preventing "...frostbite and hypothermia... if precautions are not taken, and dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes," the National Weather Service warns.
