Abbott Candidate, Hagenbuch, Opposed By Republicans For Senate Run in Texas


STATE & NATIONAL: Today in Texas, a report from the capitol city of Austin provides new information involving the Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and a number of fellow Republicans who have said that they want to disqualify a candidate selected by Abbott. The candidate, Brent Hagenbuch has been challenged over his residency in the state of Texas and is now receiving quite a bit of opposition from Republicans. By Anne M. Erbynstein Following questions that have been raised by , at least, two Texas lawmakers in the last week, Brent Hagenbuch may face a lawsuit that has the potential to prevent his ability to run for the Senate in the state of Texas. According to the lawsuit and official details situated in the Texas Constitution, a candidate must be residents of the district sought after for representing for a minimum of one year. The lawsuit contends that the Senate hopeful has apparently not resided in the 30th District of Texas for the required amount of time. Today, Hagenbuch, a Denton County resident, is challenged by another four candidate among those residents of the 30th districts whose qualifications are in keeping with constitutional law. The former Denton County GOP chair had only established residency for little more than one month. Information gathered by district officials indicated that Hagenbuch resided near the county of his candidacy however, holding an address and voting record in the neighboring county.

Surprisingly, however, the opposed candidate was able to produce an eligible address in court on Monday, therefore, also, supporting the reason Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick placed their support behind the Governor's candidate.

In court, Judge Lee Gabrial, questioned the reason Hagenbuch;s attorneys produced address information at such a late date, however, it had been indicated that the possible run for the Texas Senate may include the name Brent Hagenbuch on the ballot.

While only 4 candidates will run on the Republican ticket, there are 14 Democratic rivals, including Colin Allred,( D-32) Roland Gutierrez (D-19), and Carl Sherman Sr. (D).
