STATE & NATIONAL: In West Columbia, Texas, a group of anti-slavery historians sought after the removal of books containing information on slavery. Most recently, the Texas Historicsl Commission removed several slavery commentary from 2 book stores located on the grounds of former plantations.

Responding to inquiries surrounding the presence of books containing commentary and details on Texas slavery, the historian reached the Texas Historical Commission with questions surrounding the book's being marketed by the stores located on the Verner-Hogg plantation -- now, an apparent museum.
Inquiries launched by Michelle Haas, an amateur historian, resulted in the removal of the numerous slave- focused biomes. Haas, who is white., wrote to commissioner Dave Gravelle, with the state of Texas requesting the books be removed.
The two books, ' Remembering Tge Days of Sorrow,' Ralph Ellison, 'Stamped From The Beginning,' Ibram X Kendi and Slex Hailey's Roots were three of the books removed, this year, from the Varner- Hogg plantation book store and gift shop.
A report published by Texas Monthly magazine disclosed commentary stated by Haas who stated that the list of books submitted to Gravelle, according to Haas, documented much more about slaves in the fields and not enough comments were made about the people who worked in the house.
Gravelle indicated that Haas' complaints included comments opposing the full breath and width of tge novel , 12 Years A Slave which gave an account of a slaves experience. Gravelle indicated that Haas' book, '200 Years of Fraud,' offered comments of accounts about which Haas had been personally informed.
A 2nd plantation located in Brazoria, Texas, the Levi Jirdsn plantation book store was, also , one of the 2 which relinquished books on slavery at the behest of the Texas Historical Commission.
