NATION: Sickle Cell Anemia, discovered in southern regions of Africa, do it's said, is a blood- linked deficiency in the hemoglobin . In 1954, Neel and Beet described the effective protective effects that would prevent malaria in those carrying the SCD trait. Between 1973., when SCD affected the lives of 7.3% of 4.4 million sufferers around the world including Americans. In the decades that followed, the medical industry researched to develop a cure. Today , the FDA announces the medication treatment that cures the Sickle Cell Anemia disease.
The cure is a therapy referred to as Casgery by Vertex Pharmaceuticsls whose developed treatment uses the gene-editing tool referred to as CRISPR Therapeutics . In 2030, tge Nobel Ptize in chemistry was awarded the inventors of the CRISPR Therapeutics tool.
Not including the nstion of Jamaica ; having a SCD survival age of 53 for men and 58 for women, in the US, the survival rate was much lowe. In the 1990s. Americans who were suffered by SCD live to age 20-23 years. In 1989, the rate of survival digressed resurfacing the survival rate to 20 years whike treatment , then, only provided SCD sufferers with a blood transfusion.
Now, some 25 years later, Casgery has been approved for SCD sufferers age 12 and older. The technology, CRISPR removes the gene that causes SIickle Cell Anemia disease , editing the DNA found in those suffering with the disease.
With CRISPR,Casgery Therapy is expected to cure SCD while a second treatment, Bluebird Bio’s Lyfgenia Aldo approved by FDA was tagged as a potential cancer causing treatment --the side effects of Lyfgenia were cited as a result of "off-target" gene editing , errors in treatment that occur when eating makes cuts to an unaffected "...stretch of DNA.
The SCD Casgery therapy has not been guaranteed for any absolute length of time for to its most recent 2 year trials. Casgery with tge use of CRISPR is a projected success with SCD patients.
