Recent immigration program reinstatement, known as the Processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV), was initially paused due to concerns about fraud.

The program allows certain individuals from these four countries to come to the U.S. for up to two years under a legal mechanism called humanitarian parole. The decision by Biden permits them to live and work lawfully during this period.

Migrants must have a U.S.-based sponsor who can provide financial support. The updated program includes additional vetting of these sponsors to prevent fraud.

Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for the program. The program aims to provide safe and orderly pathways to the U.S. for up to 30,000 nationals from these countries each month.

This reinstatement is part of the administration’s broader efforts to manage migration more effectively and humanely.
