Biden-Harris Administration Talks Investing inthe Labor Force w/Women in Nonconventional Positions



NATION: This week, the Biden-Harris administration joined together with National Economic Advisor Lael Brainard, Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden, and Investing in America Chief Economist Heather Boushey met with a group of union tradeswomen and North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) engaging in discussions that involved recognizing the interests of woen entering into non coventiaonal positions within the labor force. Discussions involved the prospecttive efforts being made for ensuring that more women will be hired and treated with fairness in construction trade and construction site jobs. By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter The NABTU conference progressed with discussions stemming from the increasing interest had by American women in entering into construction jobs and included talks on matters associated with trade union membership and the concerns other than single women, also, have for ensuring adequate child care and "supportive services." Programs established by the group were inclusive of expanded appreticeship efforts, strengthening mentorship initiatives and confronting discrimination and harassment on the job. "President Biden has also secured historic funding to expand and diversify registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, doubling down on programs that we know work to bring more people into the trades. Companies receiving funding through the CHIPS and Science Act are required to provide child care in order to make these good jobs accessible. The Biden-Harris administration has taken steps to significantly invest in creating millions of jobs through the American Rescue Plan whuile creating employment for Americans through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act. In regard to the concerns of women in constytruction and trade union labor positions, the Biden-Harris administration has ensured that investments will protect and strengthen labor unions, ensure essential training and equity. Jobs that are, also, being created in areas of manufacturing adding dimension to the field of production fostered by women, such that results from the innovation and creativity incorporated in companies that are making progress at becoming established in the US economy similar to that of Texas' A-RMIE manufacturers and others that are, also, owned and operated by women of color. Since the start of the Biden administration, more than 670,000 construction jobs have been created, as companies are demanding skilled labor. The Biden administration has concentrated efforts at creating more than just jobs, but has, also, fociused on ensuring that the jobs created vby the administration are , also, good paying jobs that enable laborers to adequately provided for their families. In the last year, 2023, more women have been hired and have participated in the workforce in record numbers. women make up 14% of the construction labor force with 4% of trade skill within the labor force thanks to Bidenomics agenda for Investing in America , a plan that has created more jobs for women. The Biden-Harris administration has been responsible for the expansion of manufacturing creating a major manufacturing boom in clean energy and other ares that have added to the US economy new manufacturing facilities. Today, the US Department of Labor engages in supporting the NABTU agenda by establishing Megaprojects Program which supports equal opportunity employment and non-discrimination practices, particularly at large federal construction sites. Most recently, President Biden signed the Use of Project Labor Agreement, "...requiring project labor agreements with limited exceptions for Federal contractors on construction projects."
