Deadly Landslide In Papau, New Guinea Africa Kills 100 As Prime Minister Marape Calls In More


US & GLOBAL: On Friday, the report of a massive landslide that took people by surprise killed 100 resident of Papau , New Guinea Africa. Today, hundreds more are feared dead as rescue and recovery teams scour the remote village area of the New Guinea mountains. By Anne M. Erbynstein

However, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the landslide disaster..." -- New Guinea, Prime Minister, James Marape Today, as the rescue and recovery team continues to search for people who may have been trapped under mounds of mud, residents in the small mountain village believe that many more are dead. According to the report made from Papua New Guinea media, the landslide occurred in the mountain region at 3 a.m. Residents in the area, situated miles away from the more than 9.5 million resident population, were asleep as the landslide began and were, ultimately, overtaken in the village of several thousand. The search for survivors and the personal belongings of residents continued into the early morning as rescue teams covered the area with the help of residents. Today, the rescue efforts are complicated for Department of Works and Highways rescue teams attempting to access the maneuver mountain region as roads and highways remain closed.

The landslide struck upon the small Kaokalam village located little more than 300 miles from the nation's capitol of Port Moresby. Today, as disaster teams continue to move into the area, the PNG Defense Force has been deployed to begin the removal of debris, bodies as repair of the infrastructure, also, begins. Papau, New Guinea Prime Minister, James Marape spoke with members of the news media earlier on Thursday morning stating that he has not been fully informed of the situation in the Enga Province village. Marape indicated that he would continue to gather information and share the reports with the public.
