Former US First Lady, Rosalynn Carter Dies At, 96


NATION: Her life, filled with friendliness, good fortune and peanut farming, US former First Lady Rosalyn Carter , filled the lives of others with so much more--much more in the work she performed and contributions the former First Lady made to the American public.

Rosalynn Carter, wife of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, 1977-1981, was an advocate for the people of America expressing her support through ventures she carried forth during the Carter administration.


Rosalynn Carter was born Eleanor Rosalynn Smith in Plains, Georgia, August 18,1927. Prior to her marriage to President Jimmy Carter, young Rosalynn received a college dregree at Georgia Southwestern College and began a career as an aid to the Jimmy Carter campaign for governor.



By 1946, Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter were married - Mrs Carter devoting her time and ability to supporting Jimmy Carter's political campaigns and career. To credit their teamwork, the Carters secured the gubernatorial seat for Jimmy Carter who served as Governor ofthe state of Georgia by the year 1970.


During her service to the United States as First Lady, beginning 1977, Rosalynn Carter, continued her advocacy for people suffering with mental disease. Mrs. Carter promoted research for mental health and has a number of books associated with the disease to her credit.



Mrs Carter and husband Jimmy supported a number of charities and made contributions to the Habitat for Humanity organization. Together, the Carters authored 14 books whike as an independent writer, Rosalynn Carter authored 4 books ; an autobiographic rendering of President Jimmy Carter and an autobiography of herself , among others. In 1999, President Carter snd First Lady, Rosalynn were awarded the President's medal of Freedom.


On Sunday, days following her beginning treatment for hospice care, the First Lady who coined the phrase, " Bigger than a peanut," returned to her solemn silence in peace her home as her family: husband Jimmy Carter, sons James III, Jack, Donnel and daughter, Amy.

Rosalynn Carter leaves tge people of tge United States with momentary treasures in the memories of her sweet and gentle disposition, her service to others and her heart warming smile.
