Georgia: Federal Judge Cites Voting Rights Violation Orders District Maps To Include Black Voters

NATION: The state of Georgia has received a reasonable and essential judgement by a Federal Judge involving gerrymandering. U.S. District Judge Steve Jones has ordered new voting district maps be drawn up, such that do not create voting exclusivity against black voters.

Having carefully reviewied redistricting maps devised by the majority GOP Assembly, the Judge has taken steps in the mapping decision that will, ultiamtely, include more balck voters in a majority among residents there whose Voting Rights were being violated.

"After conducting athorough... review of the evidence in this case, the Court finds that the State of Georgia violated the Voting Rights Act when it enacted its congressional and legislative maps."-- Judge Steve Jones In a 516 page decision, Judge Steve Jones ruled against the majority GOP voter districting determining the map as being disproportionately favoring Republican white voters. Judge Jones issued an order to the Georgia General Assembly stating that the Senate must establish 2 new black majority districts.


Currently the Geiorgia voting districts include 56 member white Senate member districts adding 5 new black Senate member districts. During the determining phas of the case, Supreme Court Justice Roberts agreed that the district maps drawn up by the majority Repuvlican Assembly, stating that the current electoral structure functioned in such manner to violate or minimize the black vote.


Judge Jones issued a statement ordering the adjustments to be made. Jones allowed GOP lawmakers a specified time period within which the black majority district maps must be added.
