Las Vegas: Former Professor Denied Being Hired At UNLV Opens Fire, Kills 3


STATE & NATIONAL: On Wednesday, violence erupted after a professor applicant at UNLV opened fire on campus and killed 3 people. Professor Anthony Polito, 67, apparently outraged after being denied a position with the Las Vegas campus university rreacted with rage when he brandished a fire arm and used it to fire upon innocent victims. By Anne M. Erbynstein "Tragic and heartbreaking news coming out of UNLV. Praying for everyone on campus as law enforcement responds to the situation,. " --Las Vegas Mayor, Carolyn Goodman An investigation, now, proceeds involving the sudden outburst of gunfire at the hand of a long time business professor. Anthony Politio was leaving the UNLV campus at the time gunfire erupted. Politio was seen randomly firing shotson the 4th floor of the Beam Hall buuilding. A report made by police indicated that Polito moved around the building between floors and, on one of the floors, was confronted by law enforcement. According to the report, officers and Polito exchanged gunfire. Polito was shot and killed by police. In the course of his violent actions, Polito had injured a number of people while 3 victims who were seriously wounded died of gun shot uinjuries. The UNLV campus was shut down by police during that which had been regarded as an 'active shooting.'


One person who survived was critically innured, Other injuries were the result of shock and panic. Those victims were treated at the Sunrise Hospital. The identities of the three victims who died at the scene are not, yet, provided as an investigation continues. Las Vegas Mayor, Carolyn Goodman, commented in regard to the tragedy offering words of prayer and for those on campus who encountered the heinous act of violence.
