Hunter Biden's Gun Purchase Fraud Case Set To Begin Monday

NATION: Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is set to go on trial on three felony gun charges.  The charges are related to allegations that he lied about his status as a drug user when purchasing a pistol in 2018. The alleged gun purchase fraud case makes Hunter Biden the first child of a sitting U.S. president to be criminally tried. By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter

Contained in the details of the Hunter Biden gun purchase case is the question of whether Biden lied on a form when he purchased a gun and whether he lied about being addicted to drugs. according to the Prosecution, Hunter Biden is seen in a video using what was not directly determined to be drugs. Most recently, however, the prosecution indicates that evidence is had showing Hunter Biden’s drug use, including his own words from his 2021 memoir, "Beautiful Things". The defense attorneys have argued that the charges are legally defective. 


The trial is set to begin on June 3 and could last up to two weeks. The trial is expected to explore the depths of Biden’s drug use through the context of a series of events in which he purchased a gun in the state that authorities recovered after it was thrown into a trash can in a grocery store weeks later. There have been reports that President Joe Biden visited the home of Hallie Biden, the widow of his late son Beau Biden, ahead of her expected testimony in Hunter Biden’s trial.  The visit was reportedly due to the approaching anniversary of Beau Biden’s death.

Hallie Biden was married to Beau Biden from 2002 until his death in 2015. She began dating Hunter Biden in 2016 while Hunter was in the process of separating from his then-wife Kathleen Buhle2. Their relationship ended in 2019.
