Following the raid on LULAC members conducted by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s offices several members of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) were discovered as having some association with illegal voting registrations.
As part of an investigation into alleged voter fraud, the raids targeted individuals suspected of unlawfully registering non-citizens to vote.
The actions taken by the Offices ofthe Texas Governor Gregg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, sparked significant controversy and accusations of voter suppression. In particular— given Texas’ history of discrimination against Latino communitiesa-LULAC has called for a federal investigation.
Today, LULAC officials argue that the raids are a form of intimidation aimed at discouraging Latino voter participation.
