As a standard practice in Texas law, when the governor leaves the state, the lieutenant governor becomes the acting governor. Therefore, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is serving as the acting governor in his absence.

There has been some discussion and criticisms about the timing of Governor Abbott's trip during Hurricane Beryl. Most criticism stated complaints against the Governor's absence in view of the subsequent requirement for responding to the disaster.

Despite the numerous questions circulating in regard to Abbott's travels to Asia, there is no indication that Governor Abbott has stepped down from his position as a result of actions taken involving Hurricane Beryl.

Governor Abbott's office has stated that he remains in daily contact with Texas Division of Emergency Management and local officials to ensure preparation for Hurricane Beryl.

Acting Hovernor Patrick commented in regard to the errors that may have been made by Center Point stating that the State office is not the one to hear about CPs mistakes . Acting Governor stated that the problem involving mistakes made by Center Point will, however, be discussed with Oshidi by the board of the Public Utility of Texas.

Reports have continued to be called in by concerned residents who have issued complaints over the failed power system.

Today, during his interim gubernatorial position, Acting Governor Dan Patrick has posed question to significant agencies and companies that were expected to respond during Hurricane Beryl.

Patrick questioned Center-Point Director of Communications, Alissa Oshidi in regard to CP evasive response to tge Hurricane in parts of East Texas that left residents without power.

Oshidi indicated that a number of crews that were requested did not respond to the call. In Houston, for instance, Oshidi indicated that crews were in place in "... nearby locations."

In Houston thousands of residents from Manvel, Montgomery County to Pearland and areas across the city had incurred downed trees, some structural damage and debris strewn across communities. Until earlier on Wednesday, local power in Houston remained out since Monday.
