New COVID-19 Variant, JN1, Spread Increases Says CDC

STATE & NATIONAL: Today, the CDC reports on a most recent variant of COVID-19, JN1. Reports from the CDC indicate that JN1 is inclined to become the next most rapidly spreading SARS CoV variant in the United Ststes. So far, JN1 has a spread rate of 15-29% and is treated as an upper respiratory virus.

Considered the most rapidly spreading virus in the United States, JN1 is regarded as a vsriant proportionate with SARS CoV 2 as an increasing genome sequence.

According to the CDC report, tracking of JN1 has continued since August, 2023 and is closely related to BA.2.86. The CDC has stated that tge most significant difference between JN1 and BA.2.86 is the name, whike, however, only differentiated by the changes in the spike protein.

Following the tracking of BA.2.86, the CDC discovered similarity in JN1 by September and by October , stated that JN2 had been calculated for assuming , at least, 0.1% of SARS CoV variants, swelling to nearly 30% at this time.

The CDC does, however, indicate that JN1 does not pose a a relative threat to the public when compared to other variants.

As treatment and testing for JN1 are consistent with that of COVID-19, updated vaccines are expected to be most effective in prevention along with treatment.

It is known that COVID-19 symptoms have increased among portions of the U.S. population in peaking in late summer and mid-winter. CDC experts have not indicated how the rate of infection and serverity of JN1 compares to COVID-19.

The symptoms have not been stated in detail, however, it is necessary that anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should see a doctor.

The CDC states that the impact of JN1., similar to that of COVID-19, will depend on a oerson's general health and immunity as opposed to whether either variant may cause infection.
