Missouri HBCU Vice President ‘s Suicide Death Reviewed By University Officials

STATE & NATIONAL: In the state of Missouri, the President of Lexington University, John Mosely, was suspended pending the investigation of the alleged suicide of former university co-worker, Vice President of Student Affairs, Antoinette 'Bonnie' Candia-Bailey. On January 8, Lexington University Vice President Candia-Bsiley was found dead in her home.

"You deliberately harassed me, bullied me and got satisfaction from sitting back to determine how you would ensure that I failed as an employee and proud alumni." Comments were written in the letter allegedly forwarded by former Vice President Antoinette Candia-Bailey, to Lexington University President, John Mosely .


Following a report by the Cole County, Mo., Medical Examiner, Carl R. Doerhoff, M.D., FACS, Antoinette Candia-Bailey's death was ruled a suicide.


As the year 2024 opened, reports received by the office of the Lexington University President, John Mosely, revealed a number of wuite apparentmy disturbing matters. Mosely found that entries authorized by Candia-Bailey were actually in violation of university policy.


According to Mosely, Bailey authorized a number of student services for ineligible students. Mosely cited areas of ineligibility for services, including discounted housing and student employment services provided to ineligible students. Candid-Bailey was, also, cited for indubotfinstion.


Basing his decision on polivmcy violation, Lexington University President John Mosely, made the decision to relieve Candia-Bailey of her duties as university Vice President.


Five days after her termination, Mosely claimed having received a letter from his former co-worker. In the letter, Candia-Bailey stated she consistently experienced harassment, bullying and what to her seemed to be quite race centered treatment by white colleagues.


Antoinette Candia-Bailey served for 11 months as Vice President of the HBCU university. Some time following her termination, Vice President Candia- Bailey stated that she had not received any comment from Misely stating his criticism of her performance adding that she had nitvrecrived an action plan that would allow the office ofthe Vice President a significant amount of time to address the President's concerns.


Following the report of the university's former Vice President, university President, Mosely, received a request for his suspension issued by the school's Board of Curators.


Board of Curators officials stated thst Mosely's suspension would continue for the extent of the investigation and possible alteration of Lexington University's policies.
