Hamas Demands Prison Release of Notorious Israeli Attacker, Barghouti

US & GLOBAL: They call him the Palestinian "Mandela." He is Marwan Barghouti, the man about whom Hamas makes demands for his release. Barghouti is lauded as a fighter; a stickler for the rights of others. While Barghouti is also known for his days of engaging in murderous escapades, the Palestine extremidt is far from the man who stood as the anti-apathied revolutionary who was, first and foremost, committed to peace-that is the Nelson Mandela mystique.

By Anne M Erbynstein

Contrary to some Hamas estimations, Nelson Mandela lived a life of political nobility, not as a murderer, but as a freedom fighter; one who sought after peace and negotiated for resolutions and reconciliation.

In comparison, whe his hope has been situsted in a establishing a means by which to aid in freeing the Palestinian people from Israeli influence, Marwan Barghouti reputed as being one of the most notorious killers within the Hamas regime.

Admittedly, from the vantage point of Palestinians, Barghouti is a courageous leader who has stood on mini battlefield, however, apparently for the sheer goal to innihilste as many ofthe Jewish culture as possible..

Today, following an international court trial, Marwan Barghouti was thrust into Israel prison system convicted on charges associated with his part in fatal attacks launched against Israel, Barghouti is now serving out 5 separate life sentences.

Involved in Hamas' demand for Barghouti's release are cease fire negotiations currently being held between Israel and Palestine. While it is known to the US and UN states that the Palestine government has historically maintained a non-negotiating policy, in this , a ceasefire attempt that has the proclivity to end the fighting between Israel and Hamas, some say Palestine is making an all out effort to seem reasonable.

Simultaneously, Palestine hopes to cast Barghouti as an organizer who would vye for Palestinian solidarity.

In his most recent years of political activism, from his prison cell, Barghouti continues to extend an aura of hope for Palestinians who, along with him, have stood in agreement with launching attacks on the Israeli occupied West Bank.
