Several gunmen in combat fatigues burst into a big concert hall on the edge of Moscow, spraying visitors with automatic gunfire and injuring an unspecified number of people. The attack resulted in a massive blaze at the Crocus City Hall

The exact number of dead and wounded has not been specified, but Russia’s Health Ministry confirmed that some of the injured have been admitted to medical facilities.

This incident is considered an apparent terror attack, and there have been no immediate claims of responsibility. It is the worst terror attack in Russia in two decades and occurred as the fighting in Ukraine entered its third year.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the attack as a “huge tragedy,” and White House National Security Advisor John Kirby expressed condolences to the victims and their families. The attack took place during a concert of the famed Russian rock band Picnic at the hall, which can accommodate over 6,000 people.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Kremlin specifically addressing the connection to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The situation remains tense, and investigations are likely underway to determine the motives behind this violent incident.
