Updated: Mar 23

NATION: An announcement made by the White House releases information of the most recent development surrounding gun violence prevention. Vice President Kamala Harris has announced the opening of a new White House office established to directly address 'red flag' laws. In every state in the US a court is permitted to address such matters that involve the possible removal of a fire arm from someone thought to be a danger to themselves or someone else.

In a recent decision to take matters of gun violence prevention a step further, Vice President Kamala Harris has worked in connection with the U.S. Department of Justice to establish the 'red flag' office.

On Saturday, Vice President Harris traveled to Parkland, Florida visiting the site of the most heinous bludgeoning in recent years--the 21st century massacre that was committed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, 2018.

On that day in February, 2018, 17 people were gunned down including 14 students and 3 members of the school faculty. The families of the 17 met with Vice President Harris--the group Aldo revisited the building where the gunman opened fired in the 17 victims.

During her speech, Vice President stated that 21 states have joined the White House Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Harris encouraged another 29 state leaders to join in taking steps to prevent gun violence in U.S. states and cities while gaining the benefit is a $750 million dollar fund provided states by the Biden -Harris administration.

One of the parents, the father of 14 year old victim, Max Schachter, walked along with the Vice President during her tour of the site which may be, for some, the only memory the parents and family members have of their loved one or their child's school exireience--the building where the lives of the 17 were ended.

Following the completion of the FBI and tge city's investigation of the event, officials in Parkland have decided to raze the building and build a memorial on the site in memory of the victims of the Marjory Stonemsn Douglas High School mass shooting.

Shooter, now age 25, Nikolas Cruz is serving a full life sentence in a high security Florida prison.
