On Sunday, one of Russia’s missiles strayed into Polish airspace for a mere 39 seconds near the village of Oserdow, which lies in an agricultural region close to the Ukrainian border.
Polish authorities promptly activated F-16 fighter jets in response to this violation of their airspace.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or damage in Poland due to the missile’s brief incursion. Following the invasion of Polish airspace, Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz demanded an explanation from Russia regarding this incident.
Defense Minister Kosinski-Kamysz emphasized that had there been any indication that the missile was heading towards a target in Poland, it would have been shot down.
Poland closely monitored the attack on Ukraine and maintained communication with their Ukrainian counterparts. Both Polish and NATO F-16s were activated as part of the strategic response.
Poland considers this incident a serious matter and cannot ignore it. Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that decisions regarding further actions will be made collectively, as this incident reflects the response of the entire Polish state.
Today Polish Minister of Defense is resolute in seeking clarity from Russia and ensuring the safety of its airspace and citizens. The situation remains tense, and the international community closely watches how events unfold.
