US & GLOBAL: The Crocus Concert Hall attack near Moscow was a horrific tragedy, resulting in the loss of 115 lives and injuries to more than 100 people.

Assailants armed with guns and incendiary devices stormed the concert hall, spraying the crowd with gunfire and setting fire to the venue. Left in flames, the concert hall was left with a collapsing roof, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The concert hall was hosting a performance by the Russian rock band Picnic at the time of the attack.
The venue, Crocus City Hall, located on Moscow’s western edge, can accommodate up to 6,200 people.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement posted on affiliated channels on social media.
U.S. intelligence agencies had reportedly learned that the group’s branch in Afghanistan was planning an attack in Moscow and shared this information with Russian officials. The attackers’ fate remains unclear, and state investigators are treating the incident as an act of terrorism.
The attack at Crocus City Hall was the deadliest in Russia in years It occurred just days after President Vladimir Putin solidified his grip on power in a highly orchestrated electoral landslide.
Russia’s war in Ukraine entered its third year. Following the attack, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the raid as a “huge tragedy.” Health authorities reported 145 injured, including five children, with some potentially trapped by the blaze ignited by the assailants.
Russia’s Federal Security Service arrested 11 suspects in connection with the attack. Among them were four individuals who directly participated in the assault. Authorities apprehended the suspects while they were attempting to flee toward the Russia-Ukraine border.
