It’s important to note that different sources provide varying accounts of the encounter. While one source claims that Hochul left immediately after the confrontation, another suggests that she had a “short, respectful conversation” with the devastated family before departing.
Regardless, the incident reflects the sensitivity of the situation and the emotions surrounding Officer Diller’s tragic passing.
Officer Jonathan Diller was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens, on March 25, 2024.
The suspect, Guy Rivera, opened fire on Officer Diller after approaching Rivera’s vehicle, which was parked in front of a bus stop. Diller was shot once in the stomach below his bulletproof vest and later pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital.
Rivera, who has 21 prior arrests, was wounded when Diller’s partner returned fire. Lindy Jones, the ex-con driving the car during the shooting, was also arrested after a second gun was found in the vehicle.
