US Impact on Israel Results in Change of War Course Following Biden-Netanyahu Talks

US & GLOBAL: On Friday, Israel Prime Minister Ben Netanyahu made a decision that changes the course of the war in Gaza. Today Netanyahu announced that he had implemented a plan to open the gateway to allowing humanitarian aid into the Gaza as a relief to hundreds of thousands of Gazaians.

It was during a pinned discussion held between US President Joe Biden and Netanyahu that Biden stated the US will change its policy on the war if Israel declines to accept conditions that also protect the lives of the innocent.

During the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Israel has faced significant scrutiny regarding its handling of humanitarian aid. Here are some key constraints that have impacted the delivery of aid to Gaza refugees:

Despite claims of facilitating humanitarian aid, Israeli conduct has consistently impeded aid operations within Gaza. Legitimate relief efforts have been blocked, hindering the flow of essential supplies. Measures that could genuinely enhance aid delivery have been resisted.

Humanitarian goods have been routinely and arbitrarily denied entry into Gaza. Israel’s inspection and approval process lacks clear or consistent instructions, making it difficult for aid organizations to operate effectively.

Humanitarian movements within Gaza have been frequently denied, as restrictions have been imposed inside Gaza limiting the ability to distribute aid effectively.

Israel has failed to establish a functional system for coordinating humanitarian efforts, leading to challenges in delivering aid. Gaza’s humanitarian, health, food, power, and other critical infrastructure have been persistently targeted during the conflict.

These attacks have both debilitated aid efforts and escalated the humanitarian crisis. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued legally binding provisional measures ordering Israel to facilitate aid flow and reduce suffering in Gaza.

The Biden administration’s National Security Memorandum (NSM-20) also requires countries receiving U.S. security assistance to actively facilitate humanitarian aid delivery. Israel is expected to comply with these mechanisms, but its conduct has fallen short of expectations.

Adherence to International Humanitarian Law (IHL):

Israel’s conduct during the attacks in Gaza raises questions about its adherence to IHL. The legality of continuing U.S. arms supply to Israel is also under scrutiny.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with widespread hunger, inadequate access to basic necessities, and escalating needs. The international community continues to monitor and address these challenges in an effort to alleviate suffering and protect innocent lives.
