Vice President Kamala Harris recently announced a historic investment of $1.5 billion to bolster equitable health care during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

The funding aims to grow and diversify the nation’s health care workforce and enhance critical clinical care in underserved communities and include Investment support programs , such as the National Health Service Corps, Nurse Corps, and Substance Use Disorder Treatment and Recovery programs.

The initiatives supported by Harris address workforce shortages and health disparities by providing scholarship and loan repayment funding for health care students and professionals who commit to serving in hard-hit and high-risk communities.

The goal is to ensure that skilled doctors, dentists, nurses, and behavioral health providers are available where they are needed most. Notably, more than 23.6 million patients in the U.S. receive care from National Health Service Corps and Nurse Corps clinicians, highlighting their significant impact.

Additionally, Vice President Harris and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy have expressed concern about health care worker burnout after more than two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. They emphasize the potential for severe worker shortages in the years ahead if this issue is not addressed.

In the pursuit of making health care more affordable and accessible, Vice President Harris and President Biden are also working to address challenges related to prescription drug costs.

The Biden -Harris administration’s commitment to improving health care underscores its vital role in safeguarding the freedoms exercised by Americans.
