President Biden Announces Clemency for 11 & Commuted Sentences For 5 Non-Violent Crime Convicts.




POLITICS: On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden announced the clemency of 11 inmates pardoned and the commuted sentences of 5 inmates who were jailed for convictions on charges non-violent charges involving drug possession. According to the President, those who have been pardoned, having their sentences commuted have demonstrated such behavior that warrants their being forgiven and afforded the chance at building for themselves a "...brighter future beyond prison walls." "America was founded on the premise of 2nd chances." President Biden commented in regard to rehabilitation of those who have been convicted of non-violent and other crimes. The President states that his administration stands in favor of "...the successful return by convicts to their communities after incarceration." The President announces his administration's plan for building a justice system that that treats everyone with equal fairness under the law. The Biden administration has made marked progress in the review of clemency petitions indicating that the concerns of incarcerated Americans are important. Biden stated that the administration will continue to make careful review of petitions while delivering reforms that advance equal justice. This week, while meeting with individuals in attendance during a Second chance Roundtable discussion, Vice President Harris commented in agreement with President Joe Biden stating her belief in the "...power of redemption ..." after making a mistake, the Vice President added , even when the mistake might rise to the level of being crime." President Biden stated that the review of clemency petitions will deliver reforms, to ensure equal justice, will support rehabilitation and reentry into communities while, also, providing meaningful second chances.
