US Vice President Harris Met with National Space Council


NATION: During the week before the White House administrators engage in a brief break to celebrate the Christmas Holiday, Vice President Kamala Harris met with the National Space Council. The meeting would be held for the purpose of addressing matters associated with the 3rd annual meeting of the NSC.

"I believe we are all here together because we agree space is a place of extraordinary opportunity. So, our task, dare I say our duty, as nations must be to work together to make that opportunity real and to preserve it for future generations.


Having introduced a number of the council's officials, Vice President Harris stated the agenda which, on Tuesday, turned the focus to matters of importance involving efforts designed "... to preserve and advance leadership in space."


"[A]t COP28. There, I declared nations must work together with more ambition and urgency to protect our world from climate disaster and to advance climate action."


Harris and council members recognized members of the United States Space Station. Harris stated, "For generations, our nation has led the world in the exploration and use of space."


Harris stated that the US has advanced the world in space by way of American leadership. The Vice President stated that the US will continue to establish and carry out advances in space by "...strengthening international partnership, sharing our resources" and in areas of "...scientific capacity, and technical skill with that of our allies and partners around the world, all in furtherance of our collective vision."


Harris discussed the three major areas of concern to the group of 33 partners. The Vice President stated the 3 most significant areas of concern to partners are "...citizens, scientists, and policymakers."


While she also commented on her visit to the India Space Center whike in New Dheli, Harris stated that COP28 partners collaborated on matters involving the southern region adding that Africa was not covered, thereafter, the group made otofmfress on addressing matters to bring Africa up to standard in area where deficiencies existed.


Including discussion on concerns for supplanting space centers' dated technology, the Vice President indicated that reference areas involving

air quality warnings, to draft clean air laws, to hold polluters accountable.


Harris stated that tge COP39 agenda will include the plans for landing "...an international astronaut on the surface of the Moon by the end of the decade."


Finally, Harris stated that the , now, 36 COP28 partners will also receive the most recent framework developed by the Biden administration, "..consists of both executive action and legislation that we recently sent to the United States Congress." and consists of tge safe use of space during commercial and official activities.
