US & GLOBAL: In the past week, there have been ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding a ceasefire and hostage release deal. Here are the key points

A Hamas delegation has been in Cairo for talks on the proposed deal. While Egyptian media reports “noticeable progress,” US and Israeli sources caution that it would still take days to iron out the final details, even if Hamas accepts the current proposal.
The latest framework calls for the release of 20 to 33 hostages over several weeks in exchange for a temporary ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners. CIA Director Bill Burns is also participating in the talks.
Negotiators have made progress on technical aspects, but finalizing the deal itself could take several more days.
Today, American officials remain cautiously optimistic, mindful of previous failed efforts. Mossad Director David Barnea is ready to head to Egypt if Hamas agrees to the framework.
Meanwhile, fighting continues across Gaza. At least nine people were killed in the latest Israeli airstrikes, bringing the death toll in Gaza since Hamas’ October 7 attacks to over 34,000.
