Israel Raids Arab News Publisher Al Jazeera After Refusal To Shut Down

Updated: May 5

US & GLOBAL: This weekend, the government of Israel moved ahead with raiding the Al Jazeera offices in Jerusalem. Prior to the raid conducted by Israeli law enforcement, the news publisher had been warned by Israel officials that the location would be shut by police if the publisher did not shut down. Al Jazeera's cable broadcast Jerusalem was suspended , said Qatar. By Anne M. Erbynstein

Last month, Al Jazeera network channel complained that Israel launched direct attacks on its journalists. Two Al Jazeera journalists , Samer Abdu Daqqa and Hamza alDadooh were both killed in Gaza. Al Jazeera blamed the murders on Israel. Al Jazeera, thereafter, posted commentary stating that the media network "strongly condemned and denounced..." Israel stating that the act was that of "...a crime that violates human rights..." While the impression stated by Al Jazeera indicates that Israel "deliberately targeted the journalists during a strike in Gaza, Israel replied with comments stating that the IDF never targets journalists. The closure of the Al Jazeera office in Jerusalem had been criticized by the UN after police went in and confiscated broadcast equipment, cut off the channel's cable and satellites and blocked Al Jazeera's websites. Shortly before the Israeli law enforcement entered into the Incitement Channel to shut it down, Prime Minister Netanyahu posted a statement attesting to the shutdown following a vote by the cabinet. Despite Al Jazeera's efforts at disputing that the statement made in reference to the parent company having targeted Al Jazeera, Israel moved forward with the shutdown the Qatar-owned station. The network will remain shutdown for the full extent of the war aggression.
