Supreme Court To Review 6 States’ Decision To Ban AR-15s - SCOTUS Questioning Constitutional Violations

Updated: May 5

NATION: In a response to a plan set into motion by Illinois and 5 other legislators across the nation, the US Supreme Court has recognized the need to review a decision made by states to ban AR-15 rifles and other assault weapons. Today, the US Supreme Court will peruse the decisions made by states to determine the constitutional status of the state's bans. By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter In reflection of the 2nd amendment, the US Supreme Court has reacted to the matter involving the banns placed against the purchase and sales of assault weapons. Today, the Supreme Court stands on the statute stated in the US Constitution which provides for every American to have the right to bare arms.

At issue, is the possibility that states that ban the purchase and sales of assault weapons may be taking steps that result in the violation of the constitutional rights of the states' residents.

Considering the proclivity for states to have committed a violation of resident's constitutional rights, the Supreme Court indicates that there may be a need for stepping in and overturning the decision under such circumstance that a violation has been committed. The argument that has ensued in regard to the possession of AR-15 rifles and other assault weapons has been perused by the Biden-Harris administration while the plan by the administration has encompassed the certain requirement for the assault rifle to be banned. Today, states that are acting in favor of banning the AR-15 may not violate the rights of Americans to possess and bare arms however, states may uphold the rights of Americans to a safe and harmless, free society. The issue of gun control, including bans on specific types of weapons, is a complex and contentious one. It involves a careful balancing of individual rights with public safety. While some argue that bans on assault weapons infringe upon Second Amendment rights, others contend that such bans are a reasonable measure to protect public safety and do not prohibit the ownership of all types of firearms.

The interpretation of the Constitution and the balance between individual rights and public safety is determined by the states. According to fact, the Constitution authorizes states to have and conduct the power to protect the health and safety of its residents. Bans on assault weapons may be imposed without any effect of inhibiting efforts by any Americans citizen, at exercising the rights set forth in the 2nd Amendment.
