The White House Celebrates The First Teacher’s State Dinner w/Host, Dr Jill Biden

POLITICS: At the White House, this weekend, another first was celebrated when Dr Jill Biden hosted the first White House Teacher's State Dinner. Dr Jill Biden spoke to teachers stating the enormous responsibility and the incomparable "... profound power of a great teacher." By Michelle Crawford-Sapenter

A career teacher herself, Dr Jill Biden celebrated America's teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. The celebration, held on National Teacher appreciation Day, was conducted at the White House to honor the people, including Dr Biden, who are and have been the life's blood of education for decades.

During the ceremony, President Joe Biden commented in reference to the funding that had been provided to US public schools as the nation pulled out of the pandemic. President Biden stated, also, that he has set aside a plan for approaching Congress and/or signing an Executive Order that will; ensure the administration's decision for increasing teacher's salaries. "Teachers deserve so much more breathing room:  As I said in my State of the Union Address, let us give public school teachers a raise.  Let us help relieve them of the student debt they took on to become teachers." --President Joe Biden President Biden spoke in reference to the need for establishing laws that prevent the events of endangerment to teachers and students. Biden passed gun safety laws stating that teaching should not be a life-threatening occupation. "My Administration has...canceled over $62.8 billion in student debt for nearly 900,000 public service workers, including teachers..." through the Public Student Loan Forgiveness Program Biden stated that it was the same law that ensured the increase in background checks for persons 21 and older also provided 1 billion dollars to schools to provide for the hire of mental health professionals and counseling for students who have been traumatized as a result of gun violence that has occurred on their school campus. "Teachers hold the kite strings that keep our national ambitions aloft.  The future of our Nation is in their hands.  Today and this week, may we all show them the gratitude they deserve.  We will always have their backs"--President Joe Biden

President Biden has proposed $3 billion dollars to enhance investments in teachers and other educators. The fund will include $650 million to "...support pathways into the profession, help keep great teachers in the profession, and increase the diversity of the profession."

Biden's most recent investment in teachers lowers origination fees payments for every federal loan issued. The plan will allow teachers to save as much as $1,000 dollars in fee payments. Teachers in Head Start Programs will receive an additional $10,000 in annual salaries.

Dr Jill Biden commented to the President to remind him of the teacher's vital role in education, Dr Jill stated that US teachers are empowered, each day, with the sense of purpose. Dr Biden stated that, teaching for teachers is "...more than what they do, its who they are."
