5 Yr Old Dies in Houston-Oklahoma Floods-Harris Cty Judge Hidalgo Says Flood Dangers Persist


STATE & NATIONAL: This week, officials in East Texas and Oklahoma continue to assess the weight ofthe recent floods that rose as rain waters fell in the space of 340 miles separating Texas from Oklahoma. State search and rescue agents report tge rescue of 224 people , one 5 year old succumbed, overwhelmed by the flood waters .

In the wake of rain storms that have swamped both Texas and zoklahoma leaving both terrain, structures and people undertow, officials in both states indicated that the extent of the flooding was anticipated.


At the Texas region’s San Jacinto River, rains swelled river waters to 77.8 ft. above sea level. Quite common to the Houston area, flooding has historically created a high level rise in waterways. During a 2016 flood, bayou waters rose to beyond 20ft above seas level. Today, the Trinity River is being watched, now, for flooding that is expected to create certain cause of danger to residents.


Hidalgo commented in regard to the need for evacuating residents, Judge responded by indicating that an attempt at evacuating might add to the dangers, now, that flooding has covered a vast region of the Houston/Montgomery county area.


Over the weekend cities in Oklahoma we’re expecting up to 3 inches of rain as showers continued through last week. Today, the National Weather Center indicates that raining in tge East Texas and Oklahoma area is expected to continue through the week.
