MIT President Kornbluth Orders Removal of Pro-Palestine Protesters Encampment & Arrests


STATE & NATIONAL: On Friday morning police arrived at the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and began removing people from an encampment. Police closed down tents situated there by pro-Palestine protesters snd arrested 10 as the process continued as a result of officers following the requests made by the university’s President , Sally Kornbluth.

At 4a.m. Police in Cambridge Massachusetts issued a warning to people encamped on the campus of MIT. Police stated that the 15 minute warning followed pleas made by the university officials including the school’s President, Sally Kornbluth.


On Friday, Kornbluth stated that the removal of protesters and their encampment was a last ditch effort taken after several warnings made to protesters were followed by school officials’ demand for protesters to cease and desist and evacuate the MIT campus.


Kornbluth indicated that, after offering the student a number of options, the majority made a bad choice. Kornbluth stated that the university chose its own path after students apparently ignored the university President’s commands.


Kornbluth stated that the university issued an ultimatum to MIT students providing them information surrounding the consequences that woukd be faced if they did not comply with the university’s requests. Kornbluth stated that students were informed that they would be suspended and further described the details that the suspension would encompass.


“You will be prohibited from participating in commence and and any cocurricular or extracurricular activities.” —MIT President, Sally Kornbluth


The suspension ordered by Kornbluth would, also, prohibit students’ participation in classes, employment at MIT, exams and research for the remainder ofthe semester.


Kornbluth indicated that the university gave students every reasonable option however determined that the only option left to school official was the decision made on Friday.
