Biden Acknowledges Peace Officer Memorial Day During Police Week


POLITICS: Today, US President Joe Biden issued a proclamation on Peace Officer Memorial Day. The proclamation, issued during Police Week, recognizes the sacrifices made by the Nation’s police officers, that of fallen officers and heroes

“Every day, police officers pin on their shields and walk out the door, rushing into harm’s way to keep the rest of us safe.  Being a police officer is more than what they do — it is who they are.”—President Joe Biden.


During the statement made in regard to the signing of the President’s Police Week proclamation, the mention of a fund issued to law enforcement , nationwide would provide $350billion dollars to states for police officers “…on the beat and communities safe from violence.”


“I continue to call on the Congress to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, require safe storage of guns, fully fund ATF, and pass universal background checks and a national red flag law.”—President Joe Biden


The fund established the largest police centered funding in history as provided through the American Rescue Plan. Today police are equipped to increase efforts in establishing “…training facilities, hire more officers, and raise salaries. I also expanded benefits for first responders disabled in the line of duty and for their families.”


Biden extended funding to US police force for officers who often experience mental health reactions to trauma, experiencing emotional and physical trauma as a result of the job.

The President stated that the support shown to police officers has greatly benefitted the nation. Biden commented in regard to the crime rate stating that, last year, the US recorded one of its lowest crime rates in 50 years.


The police officers’ job is demanding, says Biden. The President stated that officers are expected to be “…everything to everyone…” including being counselors, sovial workers and guardians. Acvording to Biden, these are a number of the reason that the need for increasing funding exists. The funds will, also recruit, retain, train officer in violence prevention to assist with getting guns off the streets of the US.


In support of training, recruiting and hiring 100,000 new police officer, the President stated that his administration has provided $10billion dollars to ensure communities are well served by law enforcement.


Biden stated that tge administration has worked to end the “ scourge…” of gun violence forming “…the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, overseen by Vice President Harris.”


Following the appointment of the first ATF Director in 7 years, Biden, also, awarded 3 officers the President’ Medal of Valour .


Today, President Joe Biden designates May 15, 2024, the Peace Officers Memorial Day.
