In his opining, Justice Clarence Thomas commented in regard to bump stocks stating that the use of them does not convert a semi-automatic rifle into a machine gun any more than a shooter with a fast trigger finger.”

Based upon the opinion of Justice Thomas and 5 others, the Supreme Court decided on overturning the ban stating that the ATF had over stepped its authority to impose the ban.

While the use of bump stock assisted semi-automatic rifles has continued in use by those who would violate the law, millions of legal US gun owners , today, are declaring their appreciation to Justice Thomas and others whose decision appeals to the cast US public.

In the course of deliberating the weight of the pros and cons involved in the 2017 decision, a total of six Justices , led by Justice Thomas, determined that the decision made on Thursday regarding the former ban would hinge on the federal law and its definition of machine gun. The high court determined that the definition of machine gun did not make any association, neither directly nor implied, to bump stocks.

Following a 1986 law that prohibited the purchase and use of machine guns in the U.S., the law maintains that the possession of a machine gun is illegal and that a crime committed in violation ofthe law is punishable by 10 years in prison.
