Massachusetts Endured A Day of 911 Outage Residents Relied on Red-Light Call Box

STATE & NATIONAL: This week, stormy weather grips the nation as various regions the U.S. are being rocked by fdangerous weather conditions. Today, while a number of Ststes across the nation are using the 911 system to report weather events, the state of Massachusetts reported a statewide 911 system outage.

Today, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety described a situation that held the entire state in an emergency position. Massachusetts lost its 911 emergncy csll stlystem following the system’s shut down during the first part of the work day.


Residents received information informing them of the system failure. Instructions were issued to Massachusetts residents to uncalled the non-emergency number in the event of an emergency.


The Boston Police Commissioner, Michael Cox, informed residents to use the departmennt’s red light call box adding that any emergency reported to any one agency would be relayed and received by the necessary agency.


Calls made in case of a medical or other emergency were made possible for the greater portion of the day on Tuesday, the state of Massachusetts by use of the red light call box and the department’s non emergency number.


The system was restored later in the afternoon and an announcement made to the public restored relief and reliance upon the Massachusetts police, fire and emergency medical agencies.


Massachusetts state department has not uncovered the cause of the 911 system failure.
