WikiLeaks Developer Assange’s Plea Bargain Releases Him From Prison.

STATE & NATIONAL: Julian Assange, , known as the “ public face of WikiLeaks”; the founder of the social website, was indicted on 18 counts of felonies in 2018. Assange was charged with persuading persons having to classified files to steal information and provide it to WikiLeaks for disclosure.

Assange agreed to plead guilty to one felony count of conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified information related to U.S. national defense.

While his violation falls under the Espionage Act he will be released after serving 62 months in prison while fighting extradition in the United Kingdom.

Release: Assange is expected to return to Australia, his country of citizenship, after the court proceeding concludes.

The court agreement establishes the end of a years-long legal saga stemming from Assange’s role in publishing a massive trove of classified information about U.S. military activity in Iraq and Afghanistan through WikiLeaks.

Today, the US Department of Justice announced that Julian Assange has entered into a plea bargain with only the request of him to plead guilty to one felony charge. The court has determined that Assange will not be returned to prison for charges filed in the United States.
