NATION: The U.S. House Ethics Committee has expanded an investigation into allegations that Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick may have misused official funds for campaign purposes and violated campaign finance laws during her 2024 re-election campaign

The investigation also includes whether she engaged in improper conduct in connection with community project funding requests

The Ethics Committee has stated that the expansion of the investigation is based on a review of additional referrals from the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE). These referrals suggest potential violations of the Code of Official Conduct or other standards applicable to the performance of her duties or the discharge of her responsibilities

It's important to note that the committee has emphasized that the mere fact of an investigation does not indicate that any violation has occurred

As of now, the specific evidence being reviewed by the investigators has not been disclosed to the public, and no further public comment will be made on the matter except in accordance with Committee rules

At this time, the state of Florida and Cherfilus-McCormick's constituents will await the allegations brought about involving the Florida state Representative while a higher scale investigation continues.
