Antarctic Oil Trading Seafarers Face Problems w/Clumps of Low Sulfur Fuels Developing onthe Ocean

US & GLOBAL: Today, a report from the Antarctic involving oil shipments and spills that cause water exigencies has raised issues with international traders. The Arctic Counci has indicated that, following the recent adjustment that involve tge um use of a new low-sulfur fuel has created cause for a proposal for new , restrictive regulations.

Recently, the IMO imposed bans on heavy fuels . The ban has resulted in a study that indicates the impact of the low sulfur fuels which indicate that sulfur fuels could cause a much worse impact on the environment.

Following the bans on heavy fuels—a decision arrived at to prevent contaminating fertile waters— tge Arctic Council received the trust of sea merchant vompsnies that their decision had been in the best interest of both the companies and the environment.

Contrary to beliefs, one of the lingering problems that is directly associated with the use of low sulfur fuels is that, in the Ivey cold waters of the Antarctic, tge sulfur fuels (VLSFO ) forms large solid clumps of tge fuel-line substance in the waters. The problems involve the fact that currently used equipment is not designed to extract clumps of fuel according to the Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) and Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME).

The problems associated with potential leaks and spills on the Antarctic seas has no immediate resolution. Today, the UN announced that ships fueled by the heavy HMO petrochemical will not be permitted in the waters of tge Antarctic. Seafarers will be forced to adopt the alternative fuel —one that unfortunately causes oil contamination in tge Atlrctic and provides no remedy along the ocean that is naturally given to baring beliw freezing temperatures.
